These selected works capture Hazel McIntosh’s brief engagement with Singapore and TAV’s Lorong Gambas’ environment as a site of artistic production. McIntosh lived in Singapore between July 1988 to July 1992. She visited Singapore during the summers of 1982, 1986 and 1987.With the Kampong Drawings, TAV’s Lorong Gambas’ rural environment is depicted through the lens of manual and gendered labour in contrast to other works by TAV members of this time such as Vincent Leong’s Rooster (1989) and Meat shop (1989). These works were exhibited in exhibitions such as The Drawing Show at TAV in Lorong Gambas and Notes from a Kampong Sketch Book at National Museum Art Gallery - both in 1989.
