Gift of the Lim Family in memory of Alice Choo and Lim Eng Teck
This group of medicinal scripts and envelopes came from Benleidi at 283 Marine Parade, Singapore. It was the family home of Peranakans John Lim Eng Teck (1896-1990), Alice Choo Joo Kim (1926-2019) and their ten children. The two-storey seaside bungalow included a cement courtyard which served as a driveway and venue for parties as well as prayers. John Lim worked at Cold Storage for 55 years, starting out as a shorthand typist and retiring as a fruits and vegetables executive. He was called “King of Sunkist oranges” and “Santa Claus” by many because of his generous donations of food and fruits to various Catholic, Buddhist and Taoists groups.
