This pink ground cup, decorated with floral and foliate motifs, is typical of porcelain used in Peranakan homes that is known as ‘nyonyaware’. This type of overglazed, polychrome, enamelled porcelain was made in China to suit the taste of Peranakan Chinese communities in Southeast Asia. It is recognised by its distinctive blend of bright, contrasting colours and elaborate designs, decorated with traditional Chinese auspicious and symbolic motifs.
