This is issue 44 of the Chinese magazine and newspaper supplement Southeast Asia Weekly (Dong Nan Ya Zhou Kan 《东南亚周刊》. Distributed as a weekly newspaper supplement in both Singapore and Malaya through the Chinese newspaper Nanyang Siang Pau (Nan Yang Shang Bao 《南洋商报》), as well as in Hong Kong through Ming Pao (Ming Bao《明报》), the Southeast Asia Weekly featured literary articles, entertainment news, translations of international news as well as travel columns. The magazines were part of the wider trend during the 1950s and 1960s, whenChinese lifestyle pictorial magazines that were published in Hong Kong and distributed in Singapore, were widely read by locals and informed their tastes in fashion, music and entertainment. Issue 44 features Chinese starlet Pat Ting Hung (Ding Hong丁红) (1941–2004) on its cover page, and contains Louis Cha/Jin Yong’s serialised novel A Deadly Secret (Su Xin Jian 《素心剑》, later renamed Lian Cheng Jue 《连城诀》) and other literary texts, translations of international news, as well as entertainment, fashion and travel articles,
