This letter was written by Andrew Chan to Ralph Buchanan on 19 January 1942. It briefly describes the situation in Singapore during the Malayan Campaign of World War Two, including daylight air raids. It was cancelled on 7 February 1942 in Singapore, eight days before the island surrendered to the invading Japanese army. Postal communications continued during Malayan Campaign and the battle for Singapore. After the surrender, post ceased for a period of time before resuming in March 1942.
