Tang Da Wu is an iconic figure in contemporary Asian art, most well-known for his performances and installations. These paintings are part of Jantung Pisang: Heart of a Tree, Heart of a People, one of Tang’s most important projects from the late 1990s that manifested as workshops, sculptures, drawings, paintings and performances. He brought this project to the Venice Biennale in 2007.Tang sees the banana tree as an integral part of Southeast Asian culture and a symbol of Man in harmony with nature. For over three years, Tang collected stories surrounding the banana tree from all parts of Southeast Asia.
