Taking reference from a Malay wedding tunic in the ACM collection, Nida Tahir Shaheryar translated its motifs into intricate, 3-D floral patterns. The raised-thread embroidery of the wedding tunic is similar to that seen on European military uniforms of the 17th century and later, while the blazer-form sashed at the waists hints at the silhouette of a kebaya. The cross-cultural elements of this ensemble reflect Nida’s signature style of embroidered floral and natural patterns. She regards nature as an important part of her life.Born and raised in Abu Dhabi with Pakistani heritage, Nida Tahir Shaheryar has been based in Singapore for the last decade. Her brand, Nida Shay, has dressed royals from United Arab Emirates and Malaysia, and took part in Singapore Fashion Week 2016 and 2017. She was the 2016 winner of the Fashion Futures 1.0 Awards, a mentoring and development programme for talented Singaporeans, receiving mentorship in New York with Carolina Herrera. The brand believes in promoting the heritage of Pakistani workmanship by supporting artisans who reinterpret traditional techniques of hand embroidery.
