This booklet of songs belonged to Lim Mui Neo, who converted to Christianity in 1932. She participated in the evangelical rallies that Dr John Sung Shangjie held in Singapore in 1935 and would lead a band that waved flags, sang hymn choruses and distribute tracts. Sung was a famous Chinese Christian evangelist, born in Fujian in 1901. In the 1930s he visited Southeast Asian countries including Singapore and British Malaya where he preached rousing sermons, during which songs were sung in various Chinese dialects and other languages. Many of these songs were composed by Sung himself. Sung visited Singapore seven times across 1935, 1936, 1938 and 1939. Such was his popularity in 1935 that over 1,000 people saw him off when his ship left the harbour.
