Manuscript relief map of Singapore and Johore

This original manuscript map of Singapore and Johore was drawn by George Horace Davis (1881-1963), a British artist and illustrator who was from 1923 chief staff artist of the Illustrated London News. This map was reproduced in that publication's 7 Feb 1942 issue, one week before the fall of Singapore, for an article titled "Singapore Island Besieged by Japan: A Relief Map from Johore to our Beleaguered Fortress in the Far East". The relief map shows Kulai in Johor, where the Japanese military advance met much British resistance, and significant landmarks in Singapore including the Naval Base and R.A.F. aerodrome.
