This lamp features a backplate that has been formed as a ewer with a fish-form handle. It is engraved with blessings over the Hanukah candles, the traditional liturgical song "Ha-nerot halalu". The inscriptions are supplemented by the verse “For the commandment is a lamp, the teaching is a light” (Prov. 6:23) and the entirety of Psalm 30 which are also recited on Hanukah.”Hanukah, Hanukkah or Chanukah is an eight-day festival beginning on Kislev 25 (corresponding to December in the Gregorian calendar) that is principally known as the Festival of Illumination or Lights in the Talmud. Although not ordained in the main scriptures, Hanukkah came to be widely celebrated and remains as one of the more popular Jewish religious observances today.
