The Trimetric Classic served as a child’s first formal education and the text is written in three-characters verses for easy memorisation. From this text, children learn common characters, grammar structures, as well as Chinese history and Confucian values such as filial piety.During the Ming and Qing dynasties, this Trimetric Classic formed the basis of elementary education.The Chinese community in Singapore also used such books to educate their sons during the late Qing and early Republican period.
