Dakota Crescent was built by the Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) in 1958. It is one of Singapore’s first public housing projects by colonial authorities which sought to provide mass housing before the establishment of the Housing Development Board (HDB). The estate derived its name from a Douglas DC-3 Dakota plane that crashed at its neighbouring Kallang airport in 1946. It is also home to a dove-shaped playground which is one of its kind in Singapore.
