This is a Ronson cigarette lighter. The Ronson Lighter Company began in New York City in 1886 as Art Metal Works, and produced its first cigarette lighter in 1913. It highlights the presence of foreign luxury goods in Singapore by the 1950s, as well as the social norms of the time and the social cachet attached to smoking before the 1970s brought more stringent laws banning smoking in certain public and indoor spaces.
