Recognised for his role as an early pioneer of modernism in Singapore and Southeast Asian art, Yeo's experimental work on sculpture included not only abstract forms but also the use of everyday objects and industrial material like metal and aluminium to create assemblages. Representationally, this work is a signifier for the first Chinese word of Chung Cheng High School, 中. Metaphorically, the work is a exaltation for all students to be grounded in their values and to be role models of learning, leaders of society and pillars of nation. A teacher at Chung Cheng High School, Yeo made this work commemorating the 50th anniversary of the school’s opening.
