Embroidered silk covers, also known as keoris tutup, were used by the Peranakans to dress up chairs for special occassions or festivals. The covers are decorated with auspicious motifs such as butterflies and the eight buddhist emblems. The chair covers usually come in sets of eight. This set belonged to a Peranakan family from Malacca.
