This is a view of the reclaimed land at Telok Ayer bay, photographed most probably from Mount Palmer. Hills like Mount Palmer and the adjacent Mount Erskine were levelled for this reclamation project which began in 1879 and was completed by 1890. This extended the coastline from its former location in front of Telok Ayer Road, with the paving of Cecil Street, Robinson Road and Raffles Quay.
