One of the earliest beaded works by Bebe Seet, this purple velvet bag features antique manek potong (faceted beads) on its flap that is fringed with loops of beads along the edges. The back part shows her beaded signature ‘Bebe’ in rare bright red beads. With the beadwork done in her shop, Rumah Bebe, the beaded face was then customised into a bag by a company of third-generation local artisans who specialises in leather accessories and repair.Bebe Seet is the founder of Rumah Bebe, a boutique that offers Peranakan cuisine and fashion. As a Singaporean, Peranakan designer specialising in beaded shoes and bags, she has also been conducting beading classes since 1995. She is well-known for reviving the art of Peranakan beadwork from the 1990s, and for having one of the most exquisite workmanship on Peranakan beadwork.
