This Raffles plaque was given to Low Kway Song in appreciation of his attendance at the 1978 Old Rafflesians’ Association (ORA) annual dinner. The ORA was established in 1923, with Song Ong Siang serving as its first President. Low’s attachment to his alma mater was reflected in the naming of his first studio as Raffles studio. Low was a self-taught artist who painted portraits of notable personalities in Singapore and Malaya. Besides being a pioneer artist in Singapore, Low was also deeply involved in the performing arts as a member of the Merrilads Musical and Dramatic Association, a popular Peranakan performing group established in 1923.
