Postcard from Herbert Lim Eng Kwan

This postcard shows Herbert Lim Eng Kwan (1927-2002) in his scout uniform. Son of Lim Chong Pang and grandson of the Peranakan pineapple and rubber planter and prominent philanthropist Lim Nee Soon, Herbert was evacuated with his family to Bangalore Cantonment before Singapore fell to the Japanese in 1942. He was a was a King’s Scout and leader of Clarence High School’s 4th Bangalore Troop. On the reverse is written ‘Patience is a golden virtue’. The postcard is part of a donation which contains a mixture of garments worn by Peranakan men and women.
