Very little is known about William Jones, who briefly opened a studio in Singapore in 1865, then moved to Penang the same year. Jones probably sold the firm, but it ran till at least 1907. By then it had a Chinese name: Yuet Chung Fai (月中辉). By this time it might have been managed by Wong Yin Poh, a Cantonese photographer from Penang, who was known locally as “Mr Jones”.
