Tulip vases were made in various shapes and forms, and were sometimes called “flower pyramids”. Colourful tulips or other flowers were placed in the small spouts. This one resembles an Asian pagoda, which would have been considered exotic in the West. Tulip vases were first made in the Netherlands, and the form later copied by Chinese potters. This example is similar to a Delftware vase, which was made at De Grieksche, a firm operating during the last quarter of the 17th century.
