This embroidered wallet is decorated with auspicious animals in gold wrapped couching. The base of the wallet is red velvet and the embroidery is sewn in the form of a dragon and qilin, masculine animals suggesting that this wallet might have been used by the groom for the wedding. This is an important and diverse collection of Peranakan Chinese beadwork and embroidery from Indonesia. It contains unusual forms of beadwork and embroidery and are reflective of the fondness that Peranakan Chinese throughout Southeast Asia have for bright colours and ornate decorations.
