Lee Boon Wang (b.1934) is one of Singapore’s foremost oil painter. He was a member of the Equator Art Society (EAS) which was established in 1956. This body of sketches produced by the artist is significant to the understanding of the development of social realist movement in Singapore, particularly the ways in which EAS practised art during its early years in the 1950s and 1960s. The works also aid in our understanding of the methodology which EAS utilised in its approach towards realism during that time.
