This medal was one of the five medals given to local Olympians who were selected to represent Singapore during the 1952 Summer Olympics at Helsinki. Tang Pui Wah was the first female Olympian from Singapore. She was born in 1933 and studied in Nanyang Girls’ School, where sports was a well-established school activity. She competed in the 100 meters sprint and 80 meters hurdles in the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 and came in the 4th and 5th position.
