This porcelain model of a prunus tree stands in a lacquer jardinière. In quatrefoil form, the jardinière is carved with panels on each of its four lobes, depicting scholars and their attendants in landscapes. The panels are set in a ground of dense foliage. The creamy white glaze on the tree marks it as a product of the well-known Dehua kilns in Fujian province. At 18 inches, this tree is one of the larger of its sort – they are more usually found at about 9 inches.
