One of the most prominent advocates of women’s rights in Singapore during the 1950s, Shirin Fozdar played a key role in securing better legalprotection for women. She was one of the founders of the Singapore Council of Women in 1952. Her activism led to the establishment of theSyariah Court in 1958 and the Women’s Charter in 1961. She was given an award by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations in 1988 for her contributions to the women’s movement.
