Born in Singapore in 1959, Tumadi Patri began his art education taking part-time weekend classes conducted by APAD where he learned under the tutelage of senior local artists like Mohamed Abdul Kadir (Mohdir), Sarkasi Said and Sujak Rahman. He then continued his education at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (1986) and Pa Lin School of Art (1991).Even though his first solo show was only in 2014, he has participated in numerous group exhibitions in the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore since the 1980s. He is also a member of APAD, one of the oldest art societies in Singapore and TUJU, a local art collective consisting of Rosihan Dahim and Sujak Rahman, amongst others.Tumadi received the High Commendation prizes at the IBM Art Awards in 1990 and Singapore Telecom Expression Art Competition in 1997. He was also awarded the Certificate of Distinction in the Philippe Charriol Art Foundation Contemporary Art Competition, Singapore in 1995.
