Kantha is quilted embroidery done by the women of Bengal, India. The women create bed spreads, wraps and book or mirror covers among others either for domestic use or as gifts. The Kantha are influenced by the rural scenes, city life and modernisation, mythological scenes or depict floral and vine motifs. They are produced from recycled cloth and yarn of old saris. This is an extremely rare example of a double-sided embroidered kantha textile. Known as the rajshahi or dohar (double coloured) this textile is embroidered with floral motifs in white visible on both sides of the quilted cloth, one side being blue and green and the other side being red.
