Both cups are decorated with four panels featuring repoussé landscapes of trees, flowering plants and animals on a ring-matt background. There are two birds on one panel, and a pair of deer on the other. Both cups have unusual foliate s-scroll handles and reeded feet. Matt surfaces were a typical feature of Chinese ornamentation and were employed chiefly in connection with repoussé decoration.
