This stand was part of a Frister & Rossmann sewing machine set that was manufactured in the 1920s. Bearing the elegant 'Cleopatra' design, the model was wildly popular and possibly the best-selling model of the company. The sewing machine was a wedding gift to Madam Tok Gek Siam. She was married off as the third wife to Teo Bah Tan, the brother of Teo Eng Hock. Both brothers were avid supporters of Sun Yat Sen's revolutionary ideals.
