This Lux toilet soap tin belonged to the donor's father, Mr Teo Ann Tun, who had arrived in Singapore from China's Fujian province in the 1920s and later set up a family business selling car parts along Victoria Street in 1948. The Lux brand was founded by the Lever Brothers in the United Kingdom during the late 19th century, and was first introduced as toilet soap in 1925. The company was later known as Unilever (its current name) and began operations in Singapore in the 1950s as 'Lever Brothers Malaya'.
