‘A View of the Underground in London’ is an early work by the artist when she was a student in London. This early work is an important work that shows the artist’s sensitivity and sharp observation of her surroundings. The autobiographical nature of this work is revealed in the two figures in the left foreground that shows her own personal journey travelling around London as a student. ‘A View of the Underground in London’ is composed as a fragmented montage of images from multiple perspectives, creating the illusion of movement, paralleling the complexity and interconnectedness of the London Underground.
