Her World

‘Her World’ was produced when Chng Seok Tin returned from her studies abroad. Faced with societal pressures imposed upon her as a woman with regards to marriage, obtaining university qualifications and succeeding in life. ‘Her World’ explores the psychology of the self in relation to society and marks an important work that that deals with women’s issues in Singapore’s art history. ‘Her World’ depicts the psychological state of the artist in distress from societal pressures and having to adjust back to living in Singapore after her extended travels abroad for her art studies. The fluid and quick lines shows the heightened state of anguish in trying to meet the expectations of others. The distorted background reveals the state of disorientation experienced by the artist.
