This is a rare carte-de-visite photograph of Tan Kim Cheng, a prominent merchant and the first Siamese Consul General in Singapore in the 19th century. It was produced in a local Chinese studio, ‘Quan Hing’ in the 1890s. Tan Kim Cheng’s name in Siamese characters (Phya Anukulsiamkij) is on the reverse of the photograph.
