This is silver standing cup with three legs in the form of a tripod. The body of this piece has repousse work consisting of floral motifs and a crane. These are auspicious Chinese motifs favoured by the Peranakan Chinese. For example, the crane is a symbol of status and longevity in the Chinese culture. Its intricate designs suggest that it could have been a specially commissioned piece of silverware associated with the traditional Peranakan Chinese wedding. To make this piece of silverware, the local Peranakan consumer could have approached the immigrant Chinese silversmiths, who were then commissioned to produce such objects.
