The ‘Sea Treasure’ was one of the S-series ferries purchased by the Port of Singapore Authority in the 1980s as part of its upgrading exercise for the ferry service to Sentosa and the other Southern Islands such as Kusu Island and St. John’s Island. The new vessels could carry up to 220 passengers, had a travel speed ranging between 10 and 12 knots, and needed fewer crewmen to operate compared to their predecessors. The facilities at the World Trade Centre ferry terminal were also upgraded as part of the improvement plans. The ‘Sea Treasure’ was subsequently refurbished and assigned to the ferry service route for Kusu Island and St. John’s Island in 1991.
