This postcard shows Prince Edward of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor) at the Government House during his visit to Singapore in 1922. The prince was visiting the horse races after lunch at the Town Hall with several British colonial officials on the second day of his visit. This was part of an eight-month Eastern tour the prince took from 1921 to 1922, during which he also called on India, Malaya, Hong Kong and Japan. This postcard is part of a set of 38 detailing this visit, which was one of the most important diplomatic voyages that Prince Edward made on behalf of the British monarchy as it enabled a comprehensive survey of the social and political situation in various parts of Asia that had close links with the British Empire. A total of 16 such Empire tours were made by the prince between 1919 and 1935. The prince left for Hong Kong after spending two days in Singapore.
