Built by convict labourers in 1869, Cavenagh Bridge functioned as a much needed link between government offices in Empress Place and Commercial Square, or Raffles Place. The bridge was named after Governor Colonel William Orfeur Cavenagh, the last India-appointed Governor of Singapore.
