Censer with cloud-shaped feet

This cyclindrical incense burner has three cloud-shaped feet. Encircling the body of this cream tone glazed censer are interlocking motifs known as 'leiwen'. This repetitive motif is stamped between protruding ‘ribs’ on the body. The ‘ribs’ are created by applying strips of clay to the censer before it is glazed and fired. Cloud motifs are carved onto the legs.Dehua, located on the southeast coast of Fujian province, is well known for its production of white porcelain, known to Europeans as 'blanc de Chine'.
