This is a water-colour painting of a Malay mother and her child, both playing musical instruments. The mother is playing the 'bonang barung' (gongs) while the child is playing the 'gendang' (Malay drum). These instruments are usually played as part of a Javanese musical ensemble known as the 'gamelan'.
