Haw Par Villa exhibit showing the burning of the Red Lotus Temple

The Red Lotus Temple was the notorious ground where innocent women were lured to and held captive by evil monks and robbers. They were rescued when a heroine, known as Red Maid, and her friends took the temple and released the prisoners before setting fire to the temple. In his bid to educate the public about Chinese culture, Aw Boon Haw built a theme park housing statues and sculpture that portrayed the themes of Chinese legend, such as this scene of the Red Lotus Temple. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, Haw Par Villa was built along Pasir Panjang Road in 1937.
