This Jeanne Lanvin (1867-1946) brocade evening jacket is woven with small floral patterns in gold, silver and fuchsia and lined in purple silk. It features a deep pointed collar and kimono style sleeves which suggest its Orientalist inspiration. In the 1930s, designers were interested in incorporating elements of Orientalism in their creations. Lanvin was known for her fine craftsmanship and magnificent embroidery.
