This barkcloth shirt is decorated with rings of mica rubbings. Barkcloth clothing are basically divided into two categories. First are the ornamented or decorated ones that shows painted surface decoration which are worn during ceremonial and ritual occasions. The second category known as the undecorated ones are meant for everyday use. The barkcloth played an important role in Toraja culture until about the beginning of this century as it was the common basic material for clothing.
