This set of hookah parts consist of a mouth piece, pipe, a valve, a container and the body of the hookah. This set probably belonged to a Sufi (mystic), also known as darwish in Persian (from which we get the English term ‘dervish’). The Sufi in his quest to attain closeness with God, must undertake voluntary poverty and asceticism. For some sufis, smoking a hookah or water pipe was considered a form of intoxication that enabled them to reach an enlightened or spiritual state of mind.
