This oval shaped bottle with carved geometric decorations probably belonged to a Sufi (mystic), also known as darwish in Persian (from which we get the English term ‘dervish’). Carved from a coconut shell with simple floral patterns, this modest bottle was used as a water container. It one of the few possessions of the darwish, who undertook voluntary poverty and ascetism in their pursuit for spiritual closeness to God.
