The ‘kerosang’ is a set of brooches used by the Peranakan Chinese ‘nyonyas’ to fasten and adorn the front portion of the ‘baju panjang’ (long tunic) and ‘kebaya’ (form-fitting blouse). The ‘kerosang’ usually comes in sets of three and this particular set is joined together with chains. It is specifically known as the ‘kerosang rantay’. The Straits Chinese who found foreign coins attractive would have them soldered onto gold frames and use it as jewellery.
