This textile is a songket cloth woven using gold wrapped thread in a supplementary weft against a maroon ground. The centrefield of this textile is scattered with an eight-petalled floral motif known in some Malay communities as the ‘bunga cengkih’ or ‘clove flower’. Such cloths were used to line trays of ceremonial gifts, usually in weddings or for rituals.
