Slippers (unsewn)

This pair of unsewn slippers uses the technique of bead embroidery on a cotton canvas. In this method, beads are attached to the base of a fabric, using a needle and thread. It is usually done with the support of a ‘pidangan’ (embroidery frame). Petit point beadwork is used and the needle worker has used coloured beads to stitch out the decorative motifs. Coloured glass beads or imported beads are used to create the decorative motifs of a flowering tree with blue and orange flowers set against a yellow background.
