This figure of a reclining dog has the appearance of a typically 'sugary body' associated with Qingbai wares. Resulting in somewhat stiffly incised and/or impressed lines and angular carving. The greyish-blue glaze colour is similar to wares produced at Jingdezhen in the southern Song period (1127–1279). Qingbai' glaze derives its name from the characteristic icy, bluish-white glaze.Qingbai wares were developed during the Song dynasty (960-1279). Produced in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, they were exported in large quantities to Southeast Asia from 12th century onwards although pieces such as these were usually made for the domestic market. This piece possibly derives from the tradition of modelled wares such as funerary urns with modelled and applied decoration. Many small modelled pieces were also made for export to the Philippines, although iron spotting was common on such pieces
