This shoulder cloth features alternate red and blue diagonal stripes with floral and eight-pointed star motifs. It was made in Pekalongan, one of the best batik centres in Java, which is famous for its sarongs with bunches of flowers, European fairy tales and western motifs. Shoulder cloths were popular among the Peranakans in Java. This piece was made by batik, a process where molten wax is applied to areas of the cloth to resist the dye.
